Venue for Voice
Flowering Hope provides an opportunity for online expression against violence. Survivors are encouraged to "Speak Out" through creative means - painting, writing, photography, poetry, drawing, other - and upload their creations for all the world to see.
This is done anonymously or with personal credit, as is their choice.
In addition, we also provide creative expression opportunities through our #FHMaskProject, #hopestories and #campushopestories outreach programs.
Healing
The ability to freely express oneself without fear of retribution, blame, or judgment is very empowering.
Flowering Hope reaches out to the community with Art Outreach projects for youth, survivors and their supporters.
Healing also occurs through connecting with Nature.
Our Hiking and Health programs combine the outdoors with empowerment education focusing on prevention and healing.
Awareness and Prevention
Flowering Hope brings awareness of gender-based violence through education outreach programs for youth, families and communities.
Youth education by Flowering Hope includes our Female Youth Hiking and Health summer program.
Sex Trafficking Prevention Education and Videos, produced by Shared Hope International, are brought to
schools, clubs, community and philanthropic organizations, governmental departments and the general public.
General awareness of gender-based violence is brought to the public through Artistic Exhibits shared online and at public venues.
Data Collection
While gender-based violence, whether physical and/or sexual, has always existed, public dialogue of this topic is relatively new. This is a good thing and a step in the right direction. However, many incidences continue to go unreported, resulting in incomplete data. The reasons a woman or girl choose not to report are multifold, but can include fear of retribution, retaliation, blame, and non-belief. Some incidences that are reported get covered up by agencies hoping to avoid scandal. None of these responses are acceptable, but are effective in preventing reporting. Flowering Hope is providing a "safe means of reporting" for purposes of collecting data, without threat of any of the above. The hope is that, because it is a safe and anonymous means of reporting, survivors who may not otherwise have taken action, may do so now. This also has the opportunity of empowering the survivor by providing an opportunity to be heard, even if the violence occurred years prior.
Resource
The Flowering Hope website continues to expand its links to local and national and local Laws and Resources and Hotlines.
Activism
As Flowering Hope grows, opportunities will open up for survivors to become more involved in their own communities.
Survivor Focused
Flowering Hope is about the survivor. We are about allowing the survivor to speak, to feel safe, as well as provide an opportunity for survivors to virtually communicate with other survivors, if they wish do so. While this cannot be fully controlled, Flowering Hope has sought to make these formats as private as possible, with limited access.
Awareness = Hope = Change
