Flowering Hope Hikes
Flowering Hope is based in Marin County, CA, but serves the whole Bay Area. The San Francisco Bay Area provides some unique geographical opportunities not available in other cities and it was here that Flowering Hope began to use hiking as a method to healing and empowerment. Flowering Hope Hikes now has three programs: Survivor Hiking and Healing, Female Youth Hiking and Health, and Hiking for Hope. Each of these programs seeks to take advantage of the natural beauty that surrounds us and use it as a mechanism to healing and empowerment. Our Hiking for Hope program is open to the public and is a way to support our Survivor Hiking and Healing program, as well as our Female Youth Hiking and Health program, both of which are carried out privately and confidentially to protect the participants. We are dedicated to serving and empowering women survivors by providing a venue for her voice and an opportunity for healing though creative means. Similar to our online Speak Out opportunity, as well as our Art Outreach Program, Flowering Hope Hikes! enables both a voice and a mechanism to healing.
VOICE
The Survivor Hikes, carried out privately and in small groups, are confidential in both location and participants. This is out of respect for the survivor participants, as well as for their safety. These safety precautions allow the survivor to speak freely, have a voice, and connect with other survivors.
HEALING
The combination of the outdoors, the goal setting, the camaraderie, the accountability to others, the fun, the support network, and the ability to converse freely in a safe environment, all work to provide a unique opportunity for healing through creative means.
EMPOWERMENT
Each survivor participant will be goal setting...and meeting goals. They will be regaining their sense of self empowerment with each new mile walked or elevation reached. They will overcome physical obstacles that will in turn create empowerment on an emotional level.
